Craig Yoe

Craig Yoe returns for a chat about his latest offerings, including new imprint Yoe Books with IDW. We talk about Ditko, Decarlo, Gross, Herriman and a certain displeasure for war. Most of the creators that Craig looks into, seem to have an important impact on comics that at this point, is unmeasurable.

Eleanor Davis

I have been wanting to talk to Eleanor Davis for quite awhile. Her work spans from fun kids comics to really honest personal work. This interview was conducted before latest book The Secret Science Alliance was nominated for an Eisner. It’s a well deserved recognition of a very talented creator.

Moomin Chat with Paul Gravett and Juhani Tolvanen

Comics expert Paul Gravett and biographer of Tove Jansson, Juhani Tolvanen, joined me for a really exciting and engaging conversation about all things Tove Jansson and Moomin. Many thanks to both of these gentlemen for coming on, it was very late for them and they were great. Paul curated a wonderful sounding show in Brussels, covering a wide range of Tove Jansson’s work. As well, Juhani will wrote a biography of Tove’s life that has been published in Finland and France, and will be out eventually from Drawn & Quarterly.

For more information on the Moomin work, check Drawn & Quarterly’s fine series of strip reprints as well more of Tove’s work here.

Todd Hignite

In The Studio was one of the really strong formative influences on helping me decide what I wanted to do with the show. Really great interviews with interviewing cartoonists that strayed from the normal topics. I won’t say that I have reached that level of standards, but it set an expectation for myself.

So getting the offer to chat comics with Todd Hignite was something I could turn down. His latest book is the very fine Jaime Hernandez art book. Being a fan of both parties involved, makes me partial towards really liking it off the bat. Todd was also the driving force behind Comic Art Magazine and a contributor to the delightful Blog Flume.

Inkstuds Book – The Cover

Well folks, I have been sitting on this for a little while and waiting to show you. My publisher at Conundrum posted this image on his blog, so here it – the wonderful cover to the Inkstuds book by the very amazing Britt Wilson. I have mentioned Britt before, she is really an amazing talent that will blow up soon. Her friends like to tease her that she is the next big thing, and I agree, that is why I am really happy that she agreed to do that cover and blew my mind in the process.

We will have a proper press release soon, hopefully before TCAF about the content of the book. It is a really amazing list of interviews. Some of my favorite folks in comics are in it.

Benjamin Marra

Benjamin Marra makes some pretty hard ass comics that kicks you in straight in the balls. Night Business and Gangsta Rap Posse are both prime example of what people should be picking up on new comic day. I really appreciate that Benjamin utilizes the old school comic format and love the work he produces. Go Buy His Comics Now.
